Trujillo city is the capital of La Libertad department. It is located at the Peruvian northwest and is the third most important city of the country. Founded in 1534 by Miguel de Estete, it was the provisional capital of Peru during its independence. Trujillo is known as the “City of Everlasting Spring” because its privileged weather throughout the year.
Like Chiclayo, Trujillo is territory of the Mochica culture, so we can find archaeological remains of this culture such as the Sun and Moon Temples, Chanchan and Dragon’s Temple there.
Chiclayo city is the capital of the Lambayeque department located in the northwest of Peru.
The city was founded in 1720 as “Santa María de los Valles de Chiclayo” by decree of the President José de la Mar. In 1835, the city was awarded the “Heroic City”. It is currently known as the “Friendship´s Capital” because of its charming people.
Lambayeque was the Mochica culture’s birthplace which possibly decayed because of a devastating “El Niño” phenomenon. Due to its geographical location, it also had influence of civilizations from Cajamarca, therefore, we will find remains of the Lord of Sipan, ancient Mochica ruler of the III century.

Early, transfer to the Lima´s airport for your flight to Trujillo. Once you arrive, you will be transferred to your hotel. At a suitable hour, we will begin our tour visiting the Rainbow (Dragon) Temple, from the Chimú culture. Then, you will visit the Chan Chan archaeological complex, that has an 18km area. After that, you will visit the Tschudi Palace at the southwest of Chan Chan walking through its ceremonial squares, worship sites, reservoirs, barns, cemeteries, etc. Then, we will go to Huanchaco, an ancient fishing creek where you will see the “caballitos de totora” (totora “horses”) that continue with the artisanal fishing tradition.

At a suitable hour, we will visit the impressive Sun and Moon Pyramids which were the power center in the Peruvian coast during the Moche times. Then, you can observe the amazing group of fresco paintings in adobe in one of the Moon Temple’s walls that was unearthed by the archaeologists.
After that, visit a traditional family, descendants of the Mochica. In the afternoon transfer in a private car to Chiclayo. Transfer to the chosen hotel.

We will start our tour to the magnificent adobe platform of Huaca Rajada where the world-famous Lord of Sipan was discovered, very early in the morning. Admire fabulous gold and gems articles as well as the ancient history of the Moche civilization. Then, we will visit the Royal Tombs Museum and discover the place’s historic wealth.

At appropriate time we will be transferred to Chiclayo airport to board your return flight. Upon arrival our guide will assist you to board your international flight with return to your country.

All our itineraries have been very carefully prepared taking your trip’s best operation into account. However, changing the order of some tours or routes might be necessary in some cases. Although these changes occur in few instances, the itinerary details should be taken as a basic guide.
AIR TICKETS
If Colourful Peru oversees buying and issuing local-flight tickets, their prices may vary until the date of the flight’s booking and payment. Furthermore, the airline might change the flight number as well as its departure hour.
Once the flight reservation and payment are made, the latter will not be reimbursable. Changes regarding name, flight, route, trip’s date or cancellations are not allowed.

CLIMATE
The climate in Peru can be divided by zones: the western Andes that has a dry and cold climate in winter and its very rainy during the summer. The rainforest that has a hot, wet and rainy climate and the desert coast with a warm climate without regular rainfall.
Chiclayo city has a mild climate almost throughout the year, with higher temperatures during summer (December to March). The rainy season is from November to March and some years it causes some landslides.
Trujillo has a privileged climate, warm throughout the year with temperatures between18°C and 25°C. It is warmer during the summer (from December to March)

HEALTH
The Peruvian Andes are at high altitudes, so it is necessary to take precautions to avoid altitude sickness or “soroche”. It is important to rest a few hours, to walk slowly and to eat light before beginning any tour. We also recommend drinking coca tea that helps with acclimatization. Even though water is potable in most cities, it is advisable to drink bottled water to avoid any problems.

LANGUAGE
Peru’s official language is Spanish, which is spoken by 80% of the population. However, there is a large portion of the population that speaks Quechua and Aymara (especially in the Peruvian Andes). Moreover, we can find 55 dialects in the Amazonian rainforest.
ELECTRICAL CURRENT
Electricity in Peru is 220 Volts and 60 Hertz. In some hotels, you may find dual voltage outlets, however, we suggest checking your appliances’ voltage and take precautions by having a power adapter or converter.
PERUVIAN GASTRONOMY
During the last years, the Peruvian gastronomy has become famous because of its variety and exquisiteness. Among the most known dishes you can find the ceviche, a dish made of fish and seafood marinated in lemon juice.
The gastronomy in the north of Peru is one of the most important in the country. We can find arroz con pato (rice with duck), a dish made with cilantro, an aromatic herb that gives an amazing flavor to it. Among the typical dishes we can also find espesado, a corn soup with a side dish of yellow rice, tortilla de raya, which is an omelet made of skate fish with green onions and yellow chili. The white chicha is the zone’s typical beverage. In Trujillo, we can find cabrito con frejoles (goat meat served with beans), shambar (wheat soup made with pork’s skin and smoked ham), the sopa teóloga, turkey and hen broth with soaked bread, potato, milk and cheese.
